HR Generalist

Exempt

SUMMARY

The Human Resources Generalist supports managers with the HR Consultant to plan, manage, and coordinate activities to maximize the strategic use of human resources and maintain functions such as employee compensation, recruitment, personnel policies, and regulatory compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Explains company personnel policies, benefits, and procedures to employees or job applicants.
  • Examines employee files to answer inquiries and provides information for personnel actions.
  • Answers questions regarding evaluations, eligibility, salaries, benefits, and other pertinent information.
  • Addresses employee relations issues, such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other employee concerns.
  • Manages recruiting/application process across organization, including job posting, pre-selection, interview questions, job offers, background check, reference calls, etc.
  • Administers new hire on-boarding process: completes new hire package and coordinates new hire orientation.
  • Creates and maintains employee records in order following HR best practices.
  • Manages leave of absences.
  • Administers worker's compensation process and safety training.
  • Maintains current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action guidelines and laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Degree in Education or Bachelor's degree in human resources, or related field and 5-8 years' work experience in human resources, or equivalent educational and experience. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Familiar with human resources best practices including but not limited to employment compliance and employee engagement. Excellent computer skills including all MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint).  The ability to multi-task, strong problem solving, priority setting, organization and collaboration skills are required.  Excellent proof reading and quality control skills are required, along with strong time management skills is a must. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
